Man, this book hit the spot. I can't remember the last time I picked up a sexy sci-fi book and this one made me giddy with sexy sci-fi joy. It's hard not to fall for a book with characters as fun as this.Stone... Stone, Stone, Stone. I like his devil-may-care attitude and his ability to seduce the panties right off of Rose. Honestly, I just liked the guy. He might be a little rough around the edges but he goes after the things he wants and he doesn't leave his lady unfulfilled. I appreciate that in my sexy sci-fi heroes.
Rose is an interesting mix of minx and innocent. She's drawn to Stone and yet she doesn't want to give in because she doesn't *quite* trust him. Until she does give in and she realizes how very, very giving the former pirate is. Again, this is an excellent trait for a hero to have. I approve.
No joke, I am ALL OVER the idea of more of these books. I like the world. I like the characters. I like Cathryn Cade's writing. I'm having WAY too much fun dipping my toes into the sexy and I want MOAR!

Heart of Stone Frontiera series Book 1 eBook CJ Cade Reviews
I found this sci-fi story to be quite entertaining, and that is saying something since I don't normally tend toward this genre. The characters were very well crafted and the descriptions of the scenery made me feel drawn into the scene. I loved the relationship between Stone and Rose - he is definitely an Alpha to the Nth degree, and Rose, while small and naive in some areas, wasn't afraid to stand up to him. Yes, there were lots of steamy scenes, but the ones I enjoyed the most were the tender ones between them. Some great secondary characters as well - I am looking forward to reading Jark's story next, then hopefully that of Rose's brother.
I bought this because I had read the Lodestar series, which was a 3.5 effort across the 3 books. This book wasn't anywhere near as good. There was almost no world building - which is pretty necessary if you want the reader to be brought into a different reality.
Then the plot was pretty stupid. Rose pulls a gun on Stone - she feels she has to hold him hostage in order to tell him where her brother is. She could have, of course, just asked. But then, they'd be no book. And maybe that would have been better for the reader. Then she has lots of sex with him, because, well, he's there, she thinks he's hot, and just why not?
Glad this was free - and short.
I don't feel very strongly about this book one way or the other. The h seeks out H out of worry for her brother, sparks fly, he pushes her away for her own safety only to realize later he can't live without her, then voila! HEA. It's a sweet, quick read with some mild to semi hot sex scenes. I just couldn't connect to any of the characters. The whole book had a very detached narrative feel to it. Even as the H was pouring his heart out, describing his worst memory in what is supposed to be a poignant scene, it came off sounding rote. 3 stars because I may not have loved it, but I didn't hate it either and I was, at least, entertained until the end.
I really loved this first book of the Frontiera series. I can't imagine why anyone would give it a one star rating. I think some people don't really understand what sexy sci-fi is all about. This book is wonderful balance of science fiction, humor, romance and erotica. It's all woven into a fascinating storyline. The world building is interesting and the actions scenes are fun. I like that the hero is a self made man. It's fun to see him grapple with his conscious when it comes to seducing a woman he considers naive. He is sweet and protective even though he has a dark and dangerous past. This is a classic bad guy turned good who gets the girl story. Pure enjoyment!
I must admit that Science Fiction romances are my favorite type of stories and there are just not enough of them. Heart of Stone by Cathryn Cade was a great book in this genre. It is set in the same world as her Orion series, which I also loved. This was a free download from , though I would gladly have paid for.
Stone is an alpha character, but not too over the top, and shows that he can change and accept the changes in himself. He's gone from being a pirate to the walking the straight and narrow, but can't forgive himself for perceived mistakes in his past. Rose is a spunky heroine who held her own, with Stone and with the bad guys. She helps Stone to learn to forgive himself, which allows him to move on with his life. I'm really glad Rose went after what she wanted, even though it did put her in a sticky, if not smelly, situation. They have a sexy yet fun and fulfilling relationship.
I cannot wait until Heart of Steel comes out, and we get to read Jark's story. I also saw that Cathryn Cade has another series called the LodeStar coming out, which I look forward to reading.
This is a quick and engaging read, a standalone that opens the Frontiera series. It has good world building, storyline and character development for the length of the book and goes on my reread and recommend lists.

But when she attempts to restrain him, Stone moves things to his bedroom for Rose to tie him up there, then smoothly convinces her she needs to seduce the information from him.
Stone met Rose at a Christmas party a year earlier and has dreamed of her ever since. His usual liaisons are brief, imported and well paid, but something about Rose intrigues him. So when she unexpectedly appears at his door, he lets her in and quickly turns the tables, trading kisses for information. Much to his chagrin, Stone finds himself taking Rose with him when he sets out the next morning to meet up with Branch. He knows the trip will be dangerous, but doesn't know exactly how much that matters until Rose is in the crosshairs.
