Massively Networked is not just another book on social media; it gets to the heart of surprising changes that are rattling assumptions about health, work, the home environment, politics, the economy, and our place in the global ecosystem. Consider the following radical ideas that could soon reshape your life
o Going shopping may become obsolete, along with closets, cabinets, and freezers thanks to the rise of virtualization, collaborative consumption, and just-in-time production.
o Making a living can take on new meaning as online currencies, fundraising platforms, at-home manufacturing, crowdsourced design, and DIY spaces open doors to rethinking your worklife
o How you understand you place in the global ecosystem can shift radically as an estimated 22 billion nonhuman agents, such as bridges, bicycles, and even oceans, join the two-billion-plus people online in the next decade.
Massively Networked brings these scenarios and more to life using real-world examples that are in market now or have working prototypes. The stores are sparks to light the imaginative fire to inspire you to create the world you want.

Massively Networked How the convergence of social media and technology is changing your life Second Pamela Lund

Pamela Lund is a practical visionary who is destined to make a global impact. I've been waiting a long time to see a creative thinker of her caliber set foot on the world stage.

Massively Networked takes the reader on an insight-packed journey into emerging technological, social, and economic realities. She makes one think - hard - about putting our imagination to work and why it matters now more than ever. Abstract concepts of our time, such as the Internet of Things and augmented reality, are brought to life in ways that make complete and total sense.

Lund's massively networked universe is not a portrayal of the future - it is already here. Paying attention to the principles presented in this book could make all the difference as to whether we surf or slog through the 21st century.

Massively Networked How the convergence of social media and technology is changing your life Second Pamela Lund Reviews

"You have more power to change the world than ever before." ~ Pamela Lund

"Massively Networked" is an exciting look at how technology is changing our lives. Pamela Lund knows how to spot trends and believes the explosion of information is going to lead to an Internet of Things or a global brain. Where are we headed? Is the future going to be a place where we simply imagine things and they become real?

This book talks about ideas that are becoming a reality already, like 3D bioprinters and digital fabricators. Soon you may be able to make gourmet dishes or even cake frosting from a printer. Pamela Lund also talks about holographic virtual objects, printing clothes and other fun things like having the ability to try on sunglasses right from your computer.

Pamela Lund also asks some intriguing questions and presents some ideas for how we could save the planet from global warming. I will say that her high level vocabulary will leave you a little breathless, literally. Reading this book is a little like reading an article in WIRED magazine.

What makes this book unique is all the QR codes/tags throughout the book which make it easy to access extra information like videos of the things the author is talking about.

I hope to live to see some of the ideas in this book come true. I liked the idea of interactive environments like a bathroom heating up before you take a shower. We are really only limited by our creativity. With our imaginations it might be possible to make the world a better place to live.

~The Rebecca Review
The author uses a broad definition of "social media" to include anything that can be connected and communicated on the internet. This would include the people who, maybe obsessively, monitor and upload everything they do on to physical objects, artificial intelligences and search engines. By doing so, they can identify patterns they might not have been aware of before. While I don't necessarily agree with the author's premise that inanimate objects can be part of the "social network" in any meaningful way, the book is well written, thought provoking and makes a case worth considering.
Carolyn Foss - Early reviewer of the book
I picked up this book because I am generally interested in the effects of new media and cutting edge technology on the individual and society and found it a thought-provoking, exciting yet accessible read. The author describes now mew media and technology impacting every aspect of our lives and will continue to do so in ways that we might have thought pure science fiction not too long ago.

The book is well researched and provides sources to back up the authors thoughts and visions about the future.
For somebody looking for a stimulating book laying out a grand vision this is a good choice. It is not - thankfully - yet another "how to set up my Facebook profile" type manual.
I'll admit to being somewhat of a cynic when it comes to the role of technology in advancing our society. In a world where recent headlines about criminal flash mobs, the economy in distress, lack of jobs, and freakish weather threatening to disrupt crops take up most of the air time, Massively Networked is a good alternate reality check. I'm familiar with many of the social media and technology innovation themes the author writes about. The way she pulls these together, though, creates a compelling alternative vision of what's possible. It offers a fresh perspective not seen in other analyses and some new food for thought. I couldn't put the book down. I would have liked some of the near-future scenarios fleshed out a bit more. Overall, it's very much worth a read.
My book club and I loved Massively Networked by Pamela Lund because it opened up such a wide range of discussion topics---there was really something for everyone in this book. Our book club was attracted to it initially because the topic seemed timely and we thought it would be fun to talk about social media and how it is dramatically changing our lives. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that the book is about even more than that. While some people in our book club are not particularly interested in technology and prefer it when we read fiction, they found it thought provoking and fun to learn about places such as the kitchen where technology is already revolutionizing daily life as we know it. We had a few laughs about how we might be doing things 20 years from now that seem so crazy, but the author shows is already real. Our take-away was that there is no limit to human imagination and how it can change the world. I can see how this would also be a great book to discuss in a college course or high school class since it sets up such a rich group discussion. -Ingrid Stabb, HarperCollins business author (The Career Within You)
